Book of the Month: How Google Works by Eric Schmidt and Jonathan Rosenberg

June 2, 2016

Special shoutout for last months book recommendation to Tony Christensen! "How Google Works" by Eric Schmidt and Jonathan Rosenberg. By far the best book I've read! This book describes how Google created it's culture and management systems, written in a very humorous and intelligent manner. The big takeaways were having a "default to open" atmosphere and culture. This applies to your technology and your office space; the more shared spaces, the more integration between groups and flow of ideas. If building out a product, think about what is the technical insight behind it and think what will be true in 5 years and try to work your way backwards. Hire people smarter than you, review yourself, and it's everyone's job to recruit. This book is great for someone looking to learn more about management practices and what goes into making a successful product. It also has a little piece about career development, for those who are still trying to figure out their path in life. I can't recommend this book enough, 5 naps out of 5!
