“Your life today is the sum total of your choices. So if you’re not happy with it, look back at your choices and start making different ones.”
I only follow 2 celebrities on social media Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart. I follow these guys because they promote positivity, health and hard work with a hint of fun. So this book was a no brainer when I saw it was available for audiobook; a mixture of wild stories and Hart’s comedy sprinkled all over, this one was fun. I Can’t Make This Up is a detailed description of how exactly Hart grew up and how he became the man in the position he is today. He portrays a very honest and self-reflecting story of exactly how tough it was growing up in Philadelphia and his start in comedy. Coming to the realization that many of your weaknesses or “troubled areas” can become your strengths, it reminded me that all dark clouds come silver linings. He dives into the hard work of how he got to be where he is at today, whether it be handing out flyers at barbershops in cities his show would be or trying not to get rattled in tough neighborhood open mics.
The most valuable takeaway lessons from this book were to always be the light in the room. Be the guy that you would want to hang out with and it is amazing how many connections can be formed that can ultimately turn into business opportunities or lifelong relationships. Every disadvantage or weakness you think you may have, turn that into a strength. This is not easy to do but if you can be present, realize your short comings, and always have a positive attitude, the possibilities are endless.
I would recommend this awesome book for anyone looking to get into comedy or just wants a good laugh in general. Amazing audiobook, had to listen to this one in a day!
